Cheap Flights to Sharm El Sheikh

Sharm El-Sheikh is referred to by holidaymakers and locals simply as 'Sharm', and this city and beach resort has fast become one of the most popular spots in all of Egypt. Situated at the base of the Sinai Peninsula and separated from the mainland of the country by the Red Sea, Sharm has a distinctly different vibe to much of Egypt as a progressive, developed tourist location. Hugely popular with night clubbers and scuba divers, Sharm El-Sheikh is Egypt's most glamorous of destinations. Hot dry summers and pleasant warm winters have made this destination popular all year round. The coast boasts long stretches of white sandy beaches, but it's the waters themselves that are most inviting, with snorkelers and scuba divers coming in droves to see the multitude of underwater marine life and interesting wreck sites. The city also enjoys stunning scenery inland, where it lies in front of a desert strip backed by the Sinai Mountains. Wherever you are in Sharm, whether it's partying on the beach or wandering around the Old Town, the majestic mountains watch over the area from up high.

Things to do

There is plenty to do in Sharm El-Sheikh, from daytime water sporting activities to night-time adventures, not to mention tours of the desert and mountains.

  • Hitting the strip

Sharm has something of a reputation for being a clubbers' delight, one that easily rivals Ayia Napa or Ibiza. Most of the best clubs can be found along the 'Strip' in Na'ama Bay, home to many European-style clubs and bars that are popular with British tourists. This area is also the best place to shop and eat out.

  • Diving and snorkelling

Apart from clubbing, scuba diving & snorkelling are two of the most popular pastimes in Sharm. The Red Sea has long been a hotspot with divers thanks to a combination of year-round warm waters, excellent facilities as well numerous wrecks and spectacular marine life. Many divers are particularly attracted to the Ras Mohammed national marine park. There are numerous diving and snorkelling schools for newbies to the sport. Windsurfing, kite surfing and canoeing are also popular pursuits.

  • Desert Tours
No more than fifty years ago, Sharm was a small Bedouin fishing village. To have a more authentic experience, take a desert trip with a local guide and discover Bedouin communities, take a ride on a camel or attempt a hike up Mount Sinai to the place where Moses received the ten commandments.

Calendar of Events

With one of the most vibrant cultural and music scenes in the whole of Egypt, it's little surprise that Sharm El-Sheikh plays host to numerous annual events.

  • International Camel Competition. In April, this unique and popular event sees Sinai camels compete for title of 'Fastest Camel'.
  • Sharm Music Festival. Where better to listen to live music than against the backdrop of the Sinai Mountains. The event is held in Late April/May.
  • Sharm Film Festival. In March, this Arab and European Film festival is a competitive event with entrants from both regions as well as screenings and workshops.
