San Jose Cabo, on the Baja California peninsula in Mexico, is famed for its sandy beaches, but it also offers plenty of history with attractive colonial buildings lining the streets. In the historic district, the missionary church, built in 1730, stands in the beautiful Plaza Mijares surrounded by several art galleries. Visitors can take advantage of the Art Walk tours held each Thursday to view the work of local artists. • Missionary church of San Jose Cabo

Established in 1730 and restored in 1940, the missionary church is located in the historic quarter of the city overlooking the Plaza Mijares. This original Jesuit church was originally used by Spanish navigators and mass is still celebrated there to this day.

• Baja Brewing Company: a microbrewery

Those with a fondness for microbrewed beers will enjoy a visit to the Baja Brewing Company. Taste the range of eight different draft beers including the famous Escorpion Negro and six bottled beers including Baja Blond, Baja Black and Baja Razz: a raspberry beer.

• Fresh air on the San Jose Estuary

Located near the hotel zone of the city, the San Jose Estuary and Bird Sanctuary is a nature reserve where several bird species can be found including ibis, hummingbirds and herons. Visitors can choose to hike, cycle or go horse riding while exploring the reserve.

• Fiesta de San Jose: Starting on 8th March each year, the festival celebrates the town's patron saint. The city sees a series of parties, music events, parades and carnivals as well as special food venues offering sugared pumpkin candies and fresh tamales.

• Film Festival in Todos Santos: Held in September each year, around a 45-minute drive from the city, the film festival screens some of the best Spanish language films and documentaries all with English subtitles. There is also a film school on site.

• Los Cabos Summer Dive Fiesta: Held each summer on varying dates in the Cabo Pulmo National Marine Park, this scuba diving adventure offers a week of events including dives and beach parties. The event is perfect for scuba divers of all skill levels and ages.
