Cheap Flights To Poznan

Poznan is the capital of Wielkopolska province in west-central Poland. Historically placed in the perpetual tug of war between Prussian, Russian and German empires, the city developed a certain je-ne-sais-quoi. A delicate mix of architecture, colourful facades and a warm and welcoming atmosphere is the city's signature move proving to win over locals and guests.

Over the years, Poznan grew into a centre of trade, education, sports, technology and tourism. The city often tops charts in education levels and quality of life, winning international competitions and awards for developments in culture and infrastructure and justifying its name which, translated from the Polish, means "recognised".

The mix of half-timbered German architecture and Italian Baroque in the Old Town Market has resulted in stunning building facades, while scores of beautiful churches dotted around the town serve as a testimony to Poland's Catholic traditions. The city is a home for some of the biggest trade fairs and art festivals in Europe such as Malta Festival and International Fair, which attract large international attention.

Things To Do

The small, buzzing city of Poznan radiates energy and life. Packed with unique attractions and sights, the streets are a joy to explore.

  • The city's heart
The Old Town Square is the heart and the badge of Poznan. This picture-perfect old square, thanks to its colourful facade, is the busiest part of the town. Packed with cafes, restaurants, night clubs and souvenir shops, the Old Town Square should be on the top of every visitor's list.
  • Renaissance architecture
The Town Hall is located in the centre of the colourful and vibrant Old Town Square. This elaborate Renaissance building has been restored following war devastation more than once. The building draws an audience every day at noon to watch two mechanical billy goats butt their heads to mark one of the town's legends.
  • A breath of fresh air

The Citadel Park is a beautiful open space in the north part of old town which is excellent for promenade lovers. Originally built as a fortress, today it holds botanical sights, monuments, war cemeteries and art sculptures such as Headless figures, Obelisk to commemorate heroes of war and Rosarium to name a few.

Calendar Of Events

Poznan hosts some quirky, not to mention internationally important, festivals and annual events.

  • Malta Festival: One of the most important art and performance festivals in Central Europe. Dedicated to film, theatre, art and music, the festival takes over the streets of Poznan in June to showcase intriguing, experimental and fringe performances.
  • International Trade Fair: The biggest multifaceted industrial fair in Poland. Held every year in September in East Hall, the fair offers a wide range of products and services appealing to everyone such as food, fashion, toys, transports, education.
  • International Ice Sculpture festival: The event takes place in the Old Market Square every December to woo city guest and locals. Artists from all over the world demonstrate their sharp ice sculpture skills in speed ice carving and ice centrepiece competitions.
