Created in 1856, the Iasi Botanical Garden covers a huge area and is filled with over 800 types of roses as well as orchids and both tropical and carnivorous plants. There is also a small lake and plenty of room for children to run and play.

The Church of the Three Hierarchs has a stunning and delicate lacework exterior and inside houses the tombs of several kings of Romania including the first ruler of the united country, Alexandru Ioan Cuza.

Iasi has a full calendar of events and festivals. many held in the open air venue of Copou Park. Artisan crafts, books, mechanical music, beer and wine are all celebrated while the city's floral blooms of lilacs, azaleas and roses are also put on show.

• The National Fair of Traditional Ceramics of Cucuteni 5000. This is one of the city's most important annual events. It is held every June with potters from across the country showing off and selling their work.

• The Multicolour Festival. Also in June, this colourful event brings together the traditions and culture of different groups within the city. Open-air music and theatre productions, as well as film screenings, take place in Copou Park.

• The Iasi Festival. This religious pilgrimage to visit the relics of Saint Parascheva takes place every October. Over a million visitors pay homage to this protector of Moldavia, while cultural and sporting events and fireworks add to the occasion.
