The country is so huge that trying to see a lot of it would be impossible unless you are planning on staying for months. The best thing to do when organising your holiday and flights to Russia is to concentrate on a few places such as the capital, Moscow, and surrounding area.
Must see spots in Russia
Worth the Russia flights alone are the Golden Ring Towns consisting of Vladimir, Suzdal, and Sergiev Posad, not far from Moscow. They all have beautiful churches and monasteries, and are a chance to observe how real Russians live.
Novgorod, meaning New Town, is actually an ancient capital which had its day in the sun during the Middle Ages. Remnants remain including the magnificent 9th century Kremlin, one of the oldest in Russia and the Cathedral of St Sophia, which was completed in 1050 and is one of the oldest buildings in the country.
A little enclave squashed between Lithuania and Poland is ‘Little Russia’, also known as the Kaliningrad region. Just a short flight from St Petersburg or Moscow, this tiny area is packed full of goodies from stunning beaches on the Baltic coast to historical delights and a positive outlook. The town of Kaliningrad offers the visitor leafy spaces, half-timbered dwellings, and the World Ocean Museum where you can explore a submarine.
